-
The Woman and Child Mobile Health Clinics is a program of monthly Health Posts set up in 30 villages in the Punjab, India to provide ante and post-natal care, health education and to encourage expectant mothers to have a female child.
-
The Program was created by Jagriti Bhalai Kendra Society, a non-government organization working in community health in northern India.
-

-
Health practitioners and educators visit 30 villages in the Punjab each month and conduct clinics – connecting with 11,000 women and 7,000 children.
-
These clinics include a counselling centre and immunization awareness programs, supervised by a community organiser and nutritionist/health worker.
-
Villagers receive free health check ups, free medicine and individual counselling to identify high risk mothers and children.
-
Free seminars in each village are delivered on reproductive health and contraception.
-
The Project aims to:
-
• establish a strong network to improve health in mothers and children in villages
-
• provide ante and post-natal care to 70% of rural women within next 5 years
-
• deliver education on health, hygiene, literacy, nutritional and environmental issues
-
• train health workers, community organisers and volunteers
-
• encourage smaller families and expand contraceptive methods/acceptance in all castes, creeds and religions
-
• reduce maternal mortality, child mortality and malnutrition/morbidity
-
• provide education to prevent STD and HIV
-
• encourage expecting mothers to have a female child (highlighting the dangers of female feticide).
-
In the west, we largely regard maternal and child healthcare as ‘a given’… but this is not something that can be said when having a baby in India.
-
In India, a woman dies in childbirth every 10 minutes and a child under the age of five dies every 15 seconds.
-
We want that to change and we need your help.
-
Program funding of just $1000 AUD per month will ensure this important work continues to be delivered across 30 villages, so even small donations are so appreciated.
